Baigalmaa, who has returned to Khanbogd after studying as a veterinarian in Ulaanbaatar, is currently unemployed and looking to start her own business. She attended the training from the second day onwards, after another mother at her daughter’s kindergarten told her about it. She decided to take part as she has an idea to run a pharmacy distributing animal medicines, and wanted to learn more about how to create a business model and become a successful entrepreneur. “There is an opportunity to be successful here, as there is lots of competition in Ulaanbaatar, and many pharmacies,” she said. “However here there is only the state hired vet, which does not do very well. While there are few pets, there are many livestock animals that need more reliable access to medicines.” As a result of attending the training, she has learnt about the services on offer at the Khanbogd Youth Centre and become a member. She has also considered the importance of NGOs for the first time, and thinks that in such a small place they could have a big positive impact on the community. Before establishing her own pharmacy, she needs to acquire a regional pharmacy license and learn the local standards, but she has far more faith in her abilities after attending the Development Solutions training.
